Suture, 2024, watermelon, thread, digital photography

In this work the watermelon represents the connection of the joint struggle against the occupation, and fight for freedom and sovereignty. The watermelon to me is a symbol of resistance in Palestine and Ukraine. The watermelon is dry and hollow inside, stitched by red thread. The hollowness of watermelon was left empty of purpose as it has to do with the all the “juices” and “ripe plump” that fighting and living in the occupation takes out of individuals bodies. However, the watermelon is still intact with the help of red thread as it carefully was threaded through each crack to hold it together. The action of photographing it on digital camera is about how we as outside observers watch on screens daily the documentation of what occupation and war consequences are every day.
